We’re getting in touch to introduce SENGUARD, a security app designed to help protect people from online fraud, scams and malicious websites. 

 

SENGUARD is currently seeking volunteers to take part in a supervised testing programme and would particularly welcome the involvement of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland coordinators.

 

What is SENGUARD?

SENGUARD is designed to provide protection while people use the internet, helping to identify potential threats before they can lead to fraud. It is currently available to download free of charge and provides an additional layer of protection against online scams and fraudulent websites. 

 

Rather than relying on someone to recognise a scam themselves, SENGUARD works in the background to help identify potentially harmful websites and online threats in real time.

Depending on the level of risk:

High-risk threats can be blocked before malicious content reaches the user.

Raised-risk activity can trigger a clear warning, helping the user make an informed decision.

Normal, low-risk activity continues without interruption.

 

This is particularly relevant as scams are becoming increasingly convincing, with criminals using fake websites, messages and other forms of social engineering to persuade people to hand over personal information or financial details.

 

What SENGUARD Does and Does Not Do

 

SENGUARD does:

Scans URLs and links before you click them

Warns you about suspicious and/or dangerous websites and links

Analyses threat patterns on-device where possible

Sends anonymised threat data only (no personal details)

Stores contact details for support purposes only, deleted after the test

 

SENGUARD does not:

Access banking credentials, passwords or account details

Read personal messages, emails or communications

Track general browsing history outside of threat detection

Sell personal data to third parties

Continue data retention after the programme ends

What would participants receive?

People taking part would be able to use SENGUARD’s protection features as part of the supervised testing programme, helping to assess how the app performs in real-world use and how effectively it helps people stay safer online. 

 

The testing is intended to be straightforward and suitable for ordinary internet users. Participants would be helping to provide valuable real-world feedback and experience that can help improve the service and its ability to protect people from online fraud. There is no charge to participate in the supervised testing.
